HOLY BAPTISM FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN AND YOUTH WHO ARE NOT BAPTIZE

  • Children who are 3 years old and from elementary through high school who have not yet been baptized must come to religion classes every week according to the St. Henry’s CCD school calender.
  • These children and youth must be faithful and punctual to these classes every week.
  • Parents must do their very best to bring their children to Holy Mass on Sundays orSaturdays

Holy Mass Schedule : Saturday at 4:30PM, Sunday at 8:30AM (Spanish) and 11:00AM (English)

  • The persons that you choose as god parents of your child , should have received the sacraments of Baptism, First communion and Confirmation. If these people are married persons , they have to be married by the catholic church and should be going to Holy Mass on Sundays. You can also choose persons who are single and have received the sacraments mentioned above and who go to Mass on Sundays.
  • The Baptism for these students will be celebrated during the Easter Season.
  • We need to have Birth Certificate of the child or youth who are going to be baptized as soon as possible.
  • THE ROLE OF GODPARENTS
The principal responsibility of a godparent is to give witness to the Catholic faith by his/her words and actions. The role is, together with the parents, to present the child for baptism, and to help it to live a Christian life befitting the baptized and faithfully to fulfill the duties inherent in baptism. When called upon to profess the Catholic faith on behalf of the infant, the godparent must believe in what he/she is professing.

Godparent is expected to be someone who attends church every Sunday. God parent is to assist the child in bringing up in the Catholic faith. The church reasonably expects parents and godparents to help the child “lead a Christian life in harmony with baptism.” Baptism depends on the faith of the Church, expressed by parents and godparents. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that they live what they say they believe.

After the baptism, the godparent's role really begins, and not just in the sense of sending presents at birthdays and Christmas! Ideally, a godparent will continue to prayer for their godchild; keep in touch with them and their family; give a present or a card at the baptism anniversary and each sacramental milestone in the life of the godchild; lead the child by their example towards a Christian way of life; be supportive of the godchild’s parents in their role as Christian parents and primary educators of their child.
  • GODPARENT FOR BAPTISM
  • The canonical guidelines for selecting a Godparent (patrinus) are found in cann. 872-874. A person to be baptized needs only Godparent. If the tradition of having two is desired, the person or their parent(s) may choose a man and a woman. Two Godparents of the same sex is not permitted.
  • The mother or the father may be a Godparent. The role of Godparent is to assist the parent(s) in the training of the faith. The roles are distinct and not to be mixed.
  • A Godparent is a Catholic in good standing that is, living the Gospel message in their daily personal lives. They should practice the faith regularly. They are to be at least sixteen years of age, have the proper aptitude and intention to assume this role, and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Catholics married outside the Church, or Catholics who choose to cohabitate outside of the Sacrament of Marriage are not permitted to be Godparents due to their irregular lifestyle.Any Catholic who is not living according to the doctrinal and moral teaching of the Church should not be asked to serve in this important role as Godparent.
  • CHRISTIAN WITNESS FOR BAPTISM
  • Any Catholic, who has abandoned the faith, even if they now are active members in another Christian Church or community, may not serve as a Godparent or as a Christian Witness. They have separated themselves from the Church and cannot serve even as a witness.
  • A Christian Witness is a validly baptized non-Catholic who practices their faith in Christ in a visible and sincere manner
